Promoting Wheelchair Sport in the North East

To be the largest Wheelchair Rugby Club in Europe by 2030.

Club Milestones 2021

Back in 2021

2021 Short-Term Milestones 

1. To be financially secure by the end of 2021. Raise £15000 in 2021. ACHIEVED

2. 3 New Chairs by the end of 2021 (Currently Own 6 chairs, goal to own 9 chairs) ACHIEVED

3. 12 registered and paying members by end of 2021 (11 REGISTERED PLAYERS)

4. In 2021 we will hold Wheelchair Rugby Open Day for everyone! (CANCELLED DUE TO COVID19) 

5. Hold a 10 week taster session for Wheelchair Rugby League to see if it is viable. (ACHIEVED)

Back in 2022

2022 Short-Term Milestones 

1. To Raise £15000 in 2022 from grants. ACHIEVED

2. Two New Chairs by the end of 2022 (Currently Own 9 chairs, goal to own 11 chairs) ACHIEVED

3. 14 registered and paying members by end of 2022 (13 registered players)

4. In 2022 we will hold Wheelchair Rugby Open Day for everyone! NOT ACHIEVED

5. Form a Wheelchair Rugby League Club and enter 2023 league. NOT ACHIEVED

6. Arrange meeting with Gateshead and Newcastle Councils about NEWSE NOT ACHIEVED

2023

2. Three new junior Wheelchair rugby chairs.

3. 16 registered and paying members by end of 2022

4. In 2023 we will hold Wheelchair Rugby Open Day for everyone!

5. Form a Junior Wheelchair Rugby Club

6. Arrange meeting with Gateshead and Newcastle Councils about NEWSE

Medium-Term

1. Promotion to premiership in 2024. 

2. Create a junior wheelchair rugby club and compete in 2025

3. Start to promote starting a wheelchair rugby fours team in 2025. 

4. NEWSE: North East Wheelchair Sporting Excellence Feasibility Study.

5. Enter 2 teams into the WR5’s league in 2025

Long-Term

1. Rugby 5’s Premiership Title 2026.

2. Become self-sufficient. Create a business via a Community Interest Company to offer corporate team-building days, to teach them the skill, strength and finesse required to be an athlete in a wheelchair. First corporate event 2022.

3. Form Junior Wheelchair Rugby Club in 2023.

4. Compete in the wheelchair rugby FOURS competitions’s 2027

5. To be the largest Wheelchair Rugby Club in Europe by 2030.
